A gray and empty land home to many mysteries and hidden dangers. It is said that the dead lay restless just inches beneath the mushy surface of the soil. The Gray Moors were indeed a great battleground for the forces of both men and elves long ago. The two great peoples clashed throughout Vyankal, however the human armies of Adranatas could not cross the Variathilayn river so much blood was shed out upon the plains. Since the conflict was mostly fought out in the open, many fortresses were built throughout Vyankal. Of course these wars are long since over, so the numerous stone castles and walls have fallen into disrepair. The elven forces pulled back across the river and now remain secluded in the forest realm of Glarwood; likewise the humans settled further south back across the Suncrest Peaks in Bravaul leaving Vyankal an abandoned and forgotten land.

Life in Vyankal
Despite the emptying of the land over a thousand years ago, there are still some who dwell throughout the Gray Moors. The two notable settlements in Vyankal are Westwater and Wyrnward. There are several villages that are scattered throughout the Gray Moors, but few of them are welcoming to outsiders. Whether the stories of ghosts and ghouls are true or not, life in the moor is difficult. There is little contact, if any, from the rest of Dalun which means no news or trade. Vyankal is an empty land with little natural resources; there may be metals or precious stones to be found in the Gray Hills, but only one attempt was made to build a mine shaft which ended in disaster and now the land is haunted by witches. Folk of the moor claim that the woods, the northern branch of the Elernain Forest, are cursed by some terrible evil.
